Do you feel like you’re constantly trying to come up with new ideas for content? Get off that hamster wheel, and repurpose your content!
What is Content Repurposing?
Content repurposing is when you create multiple pieces of content from a single idea. For example, if I have an idea for a video, I can record the video and then use the transcript from the video to help me write a blog post. I can also grab the audio from the video to use for a podcast, as long as the audio makes sense in that format (i.e. it’s not a software walkthrough). Furthermore, I can create social media graphics that distill parts of the idea, as well as an infographic to illustrate the idea.
Why Repurpose Content?
There are many reasons to repurpose content, but my personal favorite is that it can save you time. Once you create the first piece of content for the idea, you can then reuse the assets from that content in the other formats. Here are some other benefits:
- Repurposing allows you to leverage any research you already did for the first piece of content. That saves even more time.
- Repurposed content can serve different audiences. Some people will read your blog while others would rather listen to a podcast.
- You can cross-promote your content. I already recorded a video on this topic, which I will add to this blog post. When I recorded the video, I used the audio from that to create a podcast, which I will also add to this post. And then I can go into the video and podcast and add links back to this blog post.
What Types of Content Can You Create?
There are many different types of content you can create. I usually start with a video or blog post and then repurpose it from there. Here are some other types of content you can create:
- Blog posts
- Social media posts
- Infographics
- Videos
- Downloadable e-books/guides (turn these into lead magnets)
- Courses
That’s right! You can repurpose content into a course! I turned a new website checklist blog post into a downloadable checklist lead magnet. When someone signs up for the checklist, they get enrolled in a mini-course based on the checklist. I’m building a much larger signature course based on the checklist and will funnel people to that once it’s ready.
