5 Ways to Drive Traffic to Your Website

Home / Tips & Tricks / 5 Ways to Drive Traffic to Your Website
May 4, 2020 by Chrissy Rey

When you created your website, you probably had visions of thousands of visitors flocking to it every time you added some content, didn’t you? Has that been the reality? If you need more traffic, here are five strategies you can implement to gain visitors.

1. Create Amazing, Share-Worthy Content

Write awesome content that not only attracts visitors, but also compels them to share it with others. Make your content stand out from the crowd by creating highly valuable, content.

Keep these points in mind when you are creating your content:

  • Would I want to read this content?
  • Does it add value to my readers?
  • Is it share-worthy?
  • Is it different from all of the other content out there?
  • Does it answer the reader’s questions and/or speak to their pain points?

2. Share Your Content on Social Media

If people aren’t already flocking to your website to view your content, you can use social media to let them know about it. All of your online connections represent potential site visitors, and eventual customers.

Whenever you create a piece of content, share it multiple times, across all of your social media profiles. Why “multiple times?” Because not every one of your connections will see every one of your posts. Sharing your content multiple times, on multiple channels, will maximize the chance of your connections seeing your posts.

3. Build Your Email List

Having an email list is like having your own, private source of traffic. Every time you publish something new on your website, you can send the link out to your email list, and watch visitors come to your site.

Now this assumes you have an engaged email list. Don’t already have one? Consider building your list using something called a “lead magnet,” which is a giveaway that visitors will get in exchange for their email address and permission to email you. Giveaways might include videos, weekly tips, templates, printables, and other premium content.

I’ll write more about building your email list in another blog post, in the very near future.

4. Guest Post

While you might not have a huge following, yet, you probably know of a website in your niche with a large audience. Ask if you can guest post on that website.

Keep in mind that high-traffic websites probably get a lot of requests like this, so you need to make sure yours stands out from the crowd. We get guest post requests on a regular basis, and most of them appear to be a standard template, so none of them really stand out from the others, and we typically ignore them. Make sure your request is custom, personal, and compelling.

5. Participate in Online Forums

Online forums like Quora, Reddit, Facebook groups (join ours!!), and LinkedIn groups can be great sources of traffic for your website. They host forums on a variety of subjects, and there’s probably at least one public forum for your niche.

Make sure you not only follow these forums, but also participate in them, by:

  • Answering people’s questions
  • Contributing your own thoughts
  • Asking questions
  • Adding value to the conversation

Before you share any links, make sure that they are relevant and add value to the forum. Also make sure you’re following the rules of the forum when you post your links.
