We care about your website and want it kept updated, backed up, and monitored. That requires regular monitoring and updates. If you want to do it yourself, we can show you how, but many of our clients would rather we take care of it for them. The maintenance plan is $149 per month, plus a $300 setup fee, which covers the time required to set everything up. If you purchase the plan as part of a website build, the setup fee is waived.
Here’s what’s included with the maintenance plan:
- Daily offsite backups with 90 days of storage, so we can restore your website in case anything happens to your server
- Uptime monitoring so you’ll know if your website stops working, and you can notify your hosting provider (you’ll get an email if the site is “down”)
- Daily security and malware scans to catch known threats and suspicious activity
- Daily performance checks to see how fast your website is running
- Automatic image optimization for every image you upload to your website to help optimize performance
- Weekly software updates, including WordPress core, plugins, and themes, performed on your production (live) site
- Premium licenses for several popular plugins and themes for a total annual savings of over $700
- Termageddon license ($119/year value) so you can have a custom privacy policy, terms of service, cookie policy, and cookie consent popup to protect your website
- Weekly reports to let you know the results of updates, scans, and monitoring
The setup fee covers:
- Installing and configuring the plugins
- Creating your Termageddon license and adding the legal pages after you go through setup
- One-time batch optimization of your images
- One-time performance tuning of your website (limited scope)
What the plan does, and what it does not do
The security items above are the full extent of the security work included in the plan. They are preventive: they keep your software current, watch for known threats, and make sure a recent copy of your site always exists. What they cannot do is guarantee your site will never be compromised. No maintenance plan can, and any provider who tells you otherwise is overselling.
Keeping your login credentials secure, using multi-factor authentication, and letting us know before you or another vendor installs new plugins or code matter more to your site’s security than anything on the list above.
If anything comes up during regular checks, monitoring, or updates, we will perform basic troubleshooting to pinpoint the problem, but the cost to fix those issues is usually beyond the scope of the maintenance plan and may incur an additional charge. This includes recovery from a security incident. If a site we maintain is compromised, the investigation and cleanup are separate work we quote at the time, because the size of that job depends entirely on what happened.
If we did not build your site
Some of the sites we maintain were built by someone else, which means we inherit code, plugins, and settings we did not write, install, or configure. Our maintenance plan keeps that software updated and monitors for known threats, but updating it isn’t the same as reviewing it. Custom code in particular receives no security updates from anyone and never goes through the review that publicly distributed plugins do, which is where the problems nobody can see tend to live.
If you want to know what your site inherited, we offer a WordPress Security Review that examines the custom components on your site, the accounts with access to it, and the configuration it came with, and gives you a written report on what needs attention and in what order. This review starts at $300, but depends on the website’s complexity, and we quote it separately for each site. A review tells you what we found; it cannot certify that a site is safe.
