As promised in my 5 Ways to Drive Traffic to Your Website post, here are 5 more ways to drive traffic to your website.
1. Reference Others
One of the most effective strategies for getting others to share your content is to quote or reference them.
Let’s say you’re writing an article about affiliate marketing. You could email a known expert in that niche, and ask them for a quote. Make it easy for them to respond by asking just a single question. Then use their response in your article, and link to them. While it’s not guaranteed that they will share the article in which they are quoted, there’s a good chance that they will, especially if it’s well-written.
2. Collaborate with Other Content Creators
I like to think of my “competition” as “possible collaborators.” While we might bid on the same projects, there is always an opportunity for collaboration. It’s great to know someone to whom I can refer customers who might not be a great fit for myself. If you think in those terms, finding collaborators to increase traffic to your website will be easy.
A simple way to collaborate is via post swap. You get a collaborator to post something on your website, and then you post something on their website. Then you both share the posts with your respective audiences. It’s that easy!
3. Advertise
Advertising on Facebook, Google, other social media platforms, and other ad networks can be a very effective way to drive traffic directly to your website. That is, if you’re willing to spend some money.
Tools like Facebook and Google already have a huge audience. You can tap into that audience through ads. Even better, you can target your ads to specific groups of users in most platforms.
4. Comment on Blogs
In my 5 Ways to Drive Traffic to Your Website post, I included “Participate in Online Forums.” Commenting on blogs is an expansion of that suggestion.
Find blogs in your niche, and identify a few that you can read and comment on regularly. Just make sure you’re adding value to the posts, and not sure linking to your own website.
Added bonus: ask the blog owner for quotes and collaboration!
5. Create Various Forms of Content
Did you write an awesome blog post? Turn it into a video or podcast. Create a checklist or other shareable content out of it.
One way to create a variety of formats of content is to use the “pillar strategy.” Try to think of a lengthy piece of content with multiple points. That will be your “pillar.” The content can start off as a in-depth blog post, e-book, video, or podcast. Then, take each of the points in your lengthy content, and turn it into a blog post, short video, or podcast.
For example, I could write an e-book called “10 Ways to Drive Traffic to Your Website.” Then I could write short blog posts about some of those ways. And then I could write additional blog posts to go into greater detail about each of the individual ways to drive traffic. I can also create videos, or podcasts, about the individual ways to drive traffic. If I want to get fancy, I can create checklists, swipe files, and other content related to driving traffic to websites. The sky’s the limit.
