Essential Pages Your Website Needs: A Guide for Small Business Owners

Home / Planning a Website / Essential Pages Your Website Needs: A Guide for Small Business Owners
July 24, 2023 by Chrissy Rey

Hello to all aspiring website builders out there! In this post, we’re exploring a critical topic for anyone looking to establish an online presence—the essential pages for your website. Whether you’re just starting or are a seasoned veteran in the digital world, these pages are fundamental building blocks for your online success.

Homepage: Your Digital Front Door

The homepage serves as your website’s digital front door. As the first thing visitors see when they land on your site, it needs to capture attention and communicate your brand effectively. Here, you should include a compelling headline, a brief introduction about your business, and links to other vital sections of your site. Remember to end with a strong call-to-action, leading visitors to their next step. Stay tuned for a future article where I’ll dive deeper into creating an engaging homepage!

About Page: Your Online Story

The About page is your chance to showcase the unique aspects of your business. It offers a space to build a personal connection with your audience. Share your story, mission, and what distinguishes you from the competition. Personal photos or videos of yourself or your team can enhance this personal connection. I’ll discuss creating a compelling About page in a future article, so make sure to check back!

Contact Page: Your Connection Bridge

The Contact page, although seemingly small, holds immense importance. This is where you make it easy for visitors to get in touch with you. Include contact details, such as your phone number and physical address if applicable. Adding a contact form is a convenient way to let people reach out without leaving your website. Using a contact form instead of sharing your email address can also prevent bots from grabbing your email address. If you have a social media presence, link your profiles here to provide multiple channels for communication.

Services or Products Page: Your Showcase

If you’re a business owner, your Services or Products page is your spotlight moment. Describe your offerings in detail, and don’t skimp on the highlights. Use high-quality images and engaging descriptions to make your services or products irresistible. Remember, organization is key—visitors should easily find what they want.

Testimonials or Reviews Page: Your Validation

The Testimonials or Reviews page is where you get to show off a bit. Featuring positive feedback from your customers gives your business credibility. Remember to request permission before showcasing a testimonial. If you have reviews on external platforms like Google, embed them here to boost your credibility further.

Blog: Your Knowledge Showcase

Your Blog is more than a single page, but I want to add it anyway, because it’s essential for many small business websites! It serves as a platform to share your industry expertise. Plus a blog can really help your website’s search engine optimization (SEO). Write articles, create tutorials, or share other valuable content to build trust with your audience and establish yourself as an expert in your niche. Ensure easy navigation by categorizing or tagging your posts. Enable comments and social sharing options to encourage interaction and boost engagement. But remember, be prepared to manage the occasional negative or spammy comment.

Legal Pages: Your Safety Net

Finally, we have the Legal pages— necessary, albeit not the most thrilling. These pages typically include the Privacy Policy, Terms of Service (or Terms and Conditions), Disclaimer, and Cookie Policy. They keep your website compliant with privacy laws and lay down the rules for using your site. Consult a legal professional or use a service like Termageddon to ensure your site meets all legal obligations.

And there you have it, folks—the essential pages your website needs: Homepage, About, Contact, Services or Products, Testimonials or Reviews, Blog, and legal pages. These form the foundation for a successful website. Feel free to customize and add pages that suit your unique business needs. Contact us if you need help determining exactly what your website needs.
